Foundations prepares students for the topics in algebra by teaching them the most basic and fundamental skills in mathematics. This course is designed to bring students of all skill levels up to speed on the knowledge required for Pre-Algebra. Starting from the ground up, students learn the basic properties of numbers followed by the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By the end of this course students will be confident in using regrouping when adding, subtracting and multiplying large numbers by hand. Students will also learn the fundamental properties of exponents and how to solve multi-step problems using the correct order of operations. This course covers operations with partial numbers, such as fractions, decimals and percent, and how to convert between each. Students will finish the course by learning basic principles of geometry and data management. In geometry students will learn about angles, polygons, basic perimeter and area. Data management topics include mean, median and mode as well as several different types of charts and graphs.
